Recently dubbed the Church of Sant’Agostino, the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista is located just about 100 meters from Piazza Cavour and Piazza Malatesta.

Little of what used to be this place of worship in the past has managed to survive the several earthquakes and the restoration works carried out in time, and they refer to some frescoes and an impressive wooden crucifix.

The church dates back to the 13th century, but what is now presented under the name of this edifice is the result of the above mentioned restoration works. The Gothic style is the one dominating the overall dash of the structure, though the baroque elements should also be noted.

The peak of this edifice’s historic trajectory refers to when it was vested with the dignity of a cathedral in 1798, but only for a short period of time, until 1809, when the Malatesta Temple was chosen to bear this title.
