The name of this traditional festival comes from the Italian fogheraccie which, actually, is indicative of the bonfires which are lit throughout the region of Emilia Romagna as a symbol of the joy with which locals welcome the coming of spring. The festival coincides with the celebration of the feast of San Giuseppe (Saint Joseph), on March the 18th, and it is precisely at Rimini that the most spectacular bonfires in the entire region are lit.
