Rimini can be explored by a fairly large range of means. Walking, getting around by bus, by car, by taxi or by bike are all possible in Rimini, each of these alternatives featuring its advantages and limitations. A special solution refers to making city tours by segway, a device easily employable even for more extensive trips in the surroundings of Rimini.

On foot

First of all, the mere walks are recommended at least for parts of Rimini, given most of the historic center is labeled as limited traffic zone (ZTL) and that there several pleasant pedestrian areas which yield great pastime opportunities while exploring the city.

On top of all the benefits characteristic of getting around on foot, this manner of exploring Rimini spares tourists the effort of acquiring the permit which allows them to enter the limited traffic zone by car.

By bus

Agenzia Mobilita and TRAM Servizi

AM (Agenzia Mobilita) and TRAM Servizi are the main bus companies operating trips throughout the province of Rimini, which means they provide connections with other notable destinations nearby the city or Rimini proper, such as Riccione, Cattolica, Verucchio or Bellaria. They also operate in city system, meaning they have several lines conceived for the transport of passengers within the city of Rimini.

AM and TRAM Servizi can be approached synthetically given they share a good deal of historic background. It was not until 2001 that the former TRAM divided into AM and TRAM Servizi, each of the resulting companies putting forward specific services.

Besides the generous network of lines conceived to cover as much as possible from the city and province of Rimini alike, the two companies put forward two extra services, services which refer to the so-called Blue Line (a line conceived especially for tourist purposes, that is, for transporting partygoers from one disco to another throughout the Adriatic Riviera at night) and to Collinea (it to designed to service tourist purposes, materialized in bus tours throughout the Malatesta Seigniory).

By bike

Getting around by bike in Rimini is not unheard of. On the contrary, biking throughout Rimini is popular with both locals and tourists. More than 30 kilometers of cycle paths have been laid out in this Mediterranean resort, which is stimulating enough for people who want to discover the city and to indulge in this pleasant sports activity. In addition, given a considerable part of the historic center of Rimini is labeled as limited traffic zone (ZTL), discovering this area by bike seems to be an inviting prospect.

On top of that, the cycling infrastructure of Rimini is complemented by the presence of plenty of bike rental companies and bike stands. Furthermore, Rimini benefits from the implementation of a bicycle sharing system, which is indicative of the care the authorities prove with respect to both preserving the historic heritage and protecting the environment.

By car

Some are inclined to believe driving around Rimini is not the most inspired choice, despite the obvious advantages of this means of transport. But there are, indeed, several hindrances which render driving in Rimini less appealing.

Rimini Municipal Police

In order to acquire a permit for crossing the historic center by people accommodated at hotels located in this part of the city, tourists must first go to the police station which issues such permits. The validity of a paper of this kind ranges from 1 day to permanent access, which means the policy of granting the permits is fairly flexible.

Car parks

Rimini is dotted with some 30 car parks, all of these being under the administration of the above mentioned AM (Agenzia Mobilita). Most of them are fitted with parking meters. Some are supervised by attendants, whereas others, depending on their location, require clients to show the previously acquired permit (pass). Thus, tourists can rely on the car parks located, for instance, in Piazza Malatesta, Piazza Ferrari, Piazza Valturio, on Via Soleri Brancaleoni, nearby Palazzo Ghetti, on Via Clementini, Via Roma, Via de la Fierra, nearby Torre Pedrera.

By taxi

Getting around by taxi is most of the time the best compromise between the public and the private means of transport, meaning tourists have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of traveling at their own pace and of not worrying about their actual personal vehicle.

In Rimini there are plenty of taxi ranks, strategically located in some of the most frequented tourist hotspots: Piazzale C. Battisti Stazione, Fiera, Hospital, Piazza Cavour, Piazzetta Teatini, Piazza Tripoli, Miramare Train Station, Viserba and Marina Centro. In normal traveling conditions, taxis charge € 1.30 per kilometer, but tourists who travel at night, with luggage, animals or outside Rimini should expect to be charged according to a list of additional rates (€ 1.00 extra if traveling on Sundays or holidays, € 0.50 extra for each suitcase, some € 0.30 extra if traveling by night etc.)
